DeFi lending has become a crucial part of the cryptocurrency ecosystem, with protocols like Aave and Morpho dominating the market. However, as these protocols grow in size and importance, they are attracting attention from traditional finance institutions.
Apollo Global Management's deal with Morpho is one such example. The firm signed a 48-month agreement to acquire up to 90 million MORPHO tokens - 9% of supply - from the Morpho Association, a French non-profit. This move is seen as a strategic acquisition aimed at securing influence over protocol parameters.
BlackRock's integration with Uniswap and Citadel Securities' investment in DeFi protocols are also significant developments in this trend. These institutions are not investing solely for portfolio gains but to secure access to on-chain credit markets and influence their development.
