Algorand Takes Quantum Leap with Post-Quantum Advancements
Algorand has been making waves in the blockchain space with its advancements in post-quantum cryptography. A recent report by the Coinbase Quantum Advisory Board named Algorand one of the most quantum-prepared layer-1 blockchains, alongside Aptos.
The board's 50-page report highlighted Algorand's deployment of live post-quantum transactions using Falcon-1024 signatures on mainnet in November 2025. This milestone marks a significant step towards full quantum resistance, but the network still relies on classical Ed25519 signatures for its consensus layer.
Algorand's Chief Scientific Officer, Chris Peikert, has led much of this research and contributed to the design of Falcon cryptography. The network's structural flexibility allows for future upgrades to be implemented without a full rebuild, giving Algorand room to close the remaining gap in quantum resistance.
