Ethereum Surpasses One Million Lifetime Developers, Consolidating Lead in Blockchain Sector
Ethereum has surpassed one million lifetime developers, solidifying its position as the largest developer ecosystem in the blockchain sector. Consensys co-founder Joseph Lubin pointed out this milestone on X, referencing an analysis by SharpLinks' Joseph Chalom.
The figure of 1 million lifetime developers includes builders who have contributed to the Ethereum ecosystem at any point since its launch. This number covers a wide range of activities and timelines, from early adoption to current development efforts.
Lubin's prediction made at DevCon5 in Osaka in 2019 has come true, with around 232,000 developers active in the past year. This influx of new entrants reinforces Ethereum's lead over other blockchain networks in terms of raw builder count.
The network's staking activity and on-chain signals have contributed to its fundamental health, despite price weakness. Lubin also highlighted composability as a key challenge for the ecosystem, with Linea, Zisk, and Gnosis pursuing bridging solutions that aim to unify fragmented liquidity across chains in real-time.
Ethereum is preparing for Glamsterdam, a protocol upgrade targeted for Q3 2026. This upgrade centers on Enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation and Block-Level Access Lists, aiming to improve decentralization and scaling Layer 1 throughput significantly beyond current levels.
