$420,000 Gold Heist Exposes Washington Residents to Sophisticated Scams
An elderly Washington resident lost over $420,000 in gold to a scammer after receiving a fake Microsoft alert.
The incident was one of four reported scams in Clallam County within a week, with total losses exceeding $673,000.
Criminals relied on tactics such as fear, trust, and urgency to convince victims to send money or transfer cryptocurrency.
Lorraine Shore, Undersheriff, warned residents to verify information before acting, citing warning signs including fake security alerts, pressure to keep quiet, and requests for remote access.
