Crypto Inmate Escapes Prison Purse, Interpol Arrests Thousands
A Bulgarian inmate managed to move $290,000 in cryptocurrency while serving a prison sentence. Rossen Iossifov, who was sentenced to 111 months for his role in an online auction fraud scheme, conspired to transfer digital assets through several exchanges and mixers.
Separately, Interpol reported on the global operation First Light 2026, which targeted transnational fraud and social engineering. Law enforcement from 97 countries participated, resulting in the arrest of nearly 6,000 people and the seizure of $293 million in assets.
Researchers found that many free VPNs failed to block tracking, with some even spying on users. A pilot test revealed that more than 80% of analyzed apps connected to advertising servers, transmitting user metadata and device information.
