Hut 8 Secures $3.25 Billion for Louisiana AI Data Center
Hut 8, a prominent bitcoin miner listed on NASDAQ, has successfully secured $3.25 billion in debt financing to support the construction of a large-scale AI data center in Louisiana.
The project, which is being developed at Hut 8's River Bend campus in St. Francisville, will be anchored by a 15-year lease with Fluidstack, a leading provider of long-term compute contracts.
According to financial projections, the data center is expected to generate significant revenue over its lifespan, producing approximately $171 million in revenue in its first full year of operations and ramping up to around $547 million annually by 2041. This growth will be driven by a combination of rising demand for AI infrastructure and Hut 8's strategic partnership with Fluidstack.
It is worth noting that the financing structure for this project marks a significant shift in the industry, as publicly traded mining firms are repositioning themselves as developers of AI and high-performance computing infrastructure. This pivot is being driven by persistently low hashprices and volatile Bitcoin mining economics, which have put pressure on margins across the sector.
