Missouri AG Sues Cryptocurrency ATM Operator Over Consumer Protection Concerns

The Missouri Attorney General's office has taken action against a cryptocurrency ATM operator, alleging that the company failed to protect consumers from potential fraud and did not clearly disclose its transaction fees.

According to the lawsuit, CoinFlip's machines have been used repeatedly by scam victims to transfer funds at the direction of fraudsters. The AG alleges that CoinFlip did not take sufficient steps to detect or prevent such transactions, particularly involving older or vulnerable consumers.

The company is also accused of charging higher fees than consumers might reasonably expect and failing to clearly disclose these fees at the point of transaction. Instead, CoinFlip relied on complex terms of service and interface design that may have obscured the total cost of using its machines.
