Traditional Finance Giants Double Down on Crypto Investments
Traditional financial institutions are increasingly turning their attention towards the digital asset ecosystem, with Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) being one of the latest entrants. The company has made a minority investment in OKX, a cryptocurrency exchange that now boasts a valuation of approximately $25 billion.
This deal marks ICE's second significant foray into the crypto space within recent months. In addition to its investment in OKX, ICE had also invested in Polymarket, the world's largest prediction market. The collaboration between these two entities is expected to enhance OKX's offerings by introducing U.S.-regulated futures contracts and utilizing ICE's U.S. futures and tokenized equities markets.
ICE will retain a seat on OKX's board as part of this agreement, although the exact details regarding its investment size remain undisclosed. The strategic move by these two entities reflects their growing interest in building infrastructure that supports digital asset adoption.
