CLARITY Act Enters Make-or-Break Week in Senate
The CLARITY Act is entering its most critical week yet as the US Senate approaches its August recess. Negotiations are ongoing, but with only 18 days remaining before lawmakers leave Washington, time is of the essence.
According to Stand With Crypto, a grassroots advocacy organization backed by Coinbase, this is a decisive stage for the bill. The group has mobilized over 2.9 million advocates to push for the legislation's passage, and they are urging lawmakers to stay in Washington until it is completed.
The CLARITY Act aims to establish federal market rules for digital assets, but its progress has been slow due to disputes over ethics rules that would apply to the president and members of Congress. Negotiators must settle outstanding provisions, release revised text, and secure enough Senate time to move the bill before lawmakers leave.
If this deadline is missed, consideration of the bill may be pushed until after Congress returns in September, prolonging uncertainty for crypto companies. Senator Cynthia Lummis has warned that Congress may not receive another comparable opportunity to enact comprehensive digital asset legislation before 2030.
