Aston Villa's Crypto Playbook: Champions League Return Fuels Bitcoin Banking Deal
Aston Villa's return to the Champions League is being fueled by significant financial gains from recent transfer deals. The club has netted approximately £152 million from the sales of midfielder Youri Tielemans and winger Morgan Rogers, with the latter deal setting a British transfer record at £117 million.
Tielemans arrived at Villa Park on a free transfer in 2023, making his £35 million sale a tidy profit. In contrast, Rogers was acquired for roughly £12 million and has now been sold to Chelsea for nearly ten times that amount.
The influx of funds comes as Aston Villa solidifies its position as one of the most aggressive crypto partners in English football. The club announced a partnership with Xapo Bank, a Bitcoin-focused digital bank, on July 2, 2025. This deal includes branding rights inside the stadium and marks a significant departure from earlier partnerships with speculative trading venues.
Aston Villa's fan token, $AVL, has seen increased trading activity around the transfer news, mirroring a well-documented pattern of major squad announcements driving short-term volume spikes in fan tokens.
