US Digital Asset Firms at Risk of Relocating Abroad
Senator Cynthia Lummis has sounded an alarm about the potential loss of American digital asset firms due to the lack of clear regulations in the US.
The Wyoming Republican points out that Europe's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, MiCA, and China's digital yuan rollout provide clarity for companies. In contrast, the US crypto landscape is characterized by enforcement actions, conflicting agency guidance, and legislative proposals that never quite cross the finish line.
Lummis argues that this uncertainty is pushing companies toward offshore destinations where regulations are clearer. She proposes two bills to address the issue: the CLARITY Act, which establishes clear jurisdictional lines and regulatory definitions for digital assets, and the GENIUS Act, which focuses on stablecoin regulation.
