Illinois Crypto Tax Lawsuit: Digital Chamber Challenges 0.2% Levy

The Digital Chamber has filed a lawsuit against the State of Illinois over its new 0.2% tax on cryptocurrency transactions, set to take effect in 2027.

The organization argues that the tax is 'facially invalid' and discriminates against people who transact in digital assets, regardless of whether they realize any gain or ownership is being transferred.

The lawsuit targets Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Department of Revenue's David Harris, claiming that the crypto tax was 'slipped into the state’s budget' without debate or feedback from affected individuals.
