Zero-Knowledge Proofs: The Key to Secure Blockchain Transactions
Zero-knowledge proofs are revolutionizing the way data is handled on blockchains. This cryptographic technique enables users to prove that they have certain information without revealing any details about it.
The breakthrough came with the development of zk-SNARKs, a type of zero-knowledge proof that can be verified independently by nodes on a blockchain. This non-interactive property makes zk-SNARKs practical for use at scale in public blockchains.
Zcash was the first major cryptocurrency to deploy zk-SNARKs in production, launching in October 2016. Its cryptographic foundation was built on research by a team that included professors from MIT, Johns Hopkins, and Tel Aviv University.
