Law enforcement in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, has recovered $46,800 in stolen funds from an elderly victim of a cryptocurrency scam.
The scam involved two individuals posing as a tech company employee and a federal employee who convinced the victim to withdraw cash from their bank and deposit it into two different crypto kiosks.
Officers intervened before the victim lost any more money, but investigators are still searching for the suspects.
Lake St. Louis Chief Chris DiGiuseppi warned that scammers often claim to be from legitimate organizations such as banks, law enforcement, or tech companies and ask victims to deposit funds into crypto kiosks.
No law enforcement agency or government organization will ever ask you to pay using Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency, the chief emphasized.
