IG Markets Launches Cryptocurrency Trading App for Australian Retail Investors

IG Markets has entered the Australian cryptocurrency market with the launch of its mobile-only trading app for retail investors.

The app allows users to buy and sell digital assets in Australian dollars, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Cardano, Solana, and a range of meme coins. The platform is designed to resemble mainstream retail investing products rather than specialist crypto exchanges.

IG's Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, Michael Jones, stated that the launch reflects a gap between investor demand and available services in the market. He emphasized that digital assets have become a mainstream asset class, with one-third of Australians owning cryptocurrency.

The new app is part of IG's expansion into the local crypto market following its acquisition of Independent Reserve, which added 500,000 customers to the group. The deal also brought exchange infrastructure and further established IG as a major player in the Australian cryptocurrency space.
