A foreigner visiting Minsk was targeted by two local residents who defrauded him of $130,000 in a cryptocurrency exchange scam.
The victim, from an East Asian country, met with the suspects to buy cryptocurrency. They received a bag containing cash from the victim and swapped it for another bag filled with counterfeit banknotes.
During the count, the suspects accused the victim of using fake currency and fled the scene.
Part of the stolen money has been recovered and returned to its owner, who is now likely counting his losses. A criminal case has been opened on charges of fraud on an especially large scale.
