US Justice Department Launches Compensation Process for OneCoin Victims
The US Department of Justice has announced the launch of a compensation process for victims of the OneCoin cryptocurrency scam. The scheme, which operated from 2014 to 2019, was accused of causing over $4 billion in losses worldwide by promising high returns through a non-existent digital currency.
OneCoin's founders, Ruja Ignatova and Karl Sebastian Greenwood, were at the center of the scam. Greenwood was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2023, while Ignatova remains on the run after disappearing in 2017.
The compensation process will provide approximately $40 million for victims who purchased OneCoin-related products or investment packages between 2014 and 2019 and suffered financial losses as a result. Claims can be submitted online, via email, or by mail before June 30, 2026.
