Remittance Giants MoneyGram and Western Union Flock to Solana Blockchain
MoneyGram has become an active validator on the Solana network, participating in transaction processing and network security. This is a significant development for the remittance giant, which has been involved with blockchain technology for over half a decade.
In June 2026, MoneyGram revealed its strategic initiative to become a validator on Solana. As a validator, MoneyGram actively participates in processing transaction blocks and maintaining the security of Solana's proof-of-stake infrastructure.
This is a major operational commitment for MoneyGram, marking a shift from utilizing blockchain infrastructure to actively maintaining it.
MoneyGram has also enrolled in the Solana Developer Platform, an API-focused infrastructure designed for institutions developing compliant financial solutions on Solana. Mastercard is among other early adopters of this platform.
