UK Government Acts to Protect Democracy from Foreign Interference

A recent review into foreign interference in British politics has resulted in significant changes to the way political parties operate. The review, led by former permanent secretary Philip Rycroft, highlighted the risks of foreign influence on UK democracy.

The recommendations include a moratorium on cryptocurrency donations and a cap on donations from British voters abroad. This comes after Reform UK's former leader in Wales, Nathan Gill, was jailed for accepting bribes from Moscow.

Rycroft emphasized that the threat of foreign financial interference is real and persistent. He noted that foreign actors are using social media to subvert debate and exacerbate division.
