Ethereum Wallets Drained in Coordinated Attack

A recent wave of attacks on Ethereum wallets has left the cryptocurrency community reeling. Hundreds of wallets, many inactive for seven years or more, have been targeted in a coordinated campaign.

The attackers appear to be utilizing old, compromised wallet keys that have been exposed for years. This method allows them to bypass security measures and drain funds from vulnerable accounts.

According to on-chain data, the attacker has deposited 2 ETH to an exchange, likely converted to Monero, and separately bridged 324 ETH to the Bitcoin network via Thorchain. The total losses are estimated to be above $800,000.
