Vitalik Buterin Unveils Lean Ethereum: A 3-4 Year Redesign of the Ethereum Network
Vitalik Buterin has unveiled 'Lean Ethereum', a multi-year plan to fundamentally redesign the Ethereum network. The initiative is positioned as the blockchain's third major evolutionary phase and aims to replace nearly all core protocol elements over the next three to four years.
The core goal of Lean Ethereum is to streamline the network's architecture, making it more efficient and secure. A key component involves reorganizing Ethereum's data storage structure, which could reduce transaction fees for certain tokens by more than ten times.
The redesign also addresses long-term challenges such as building quantum computer resistance. Buterin noted that this year's scheduled network upgrade, the Hegota hard fork, will be the last major pre-Lean update and marks a clear transition point for future development.
