Cryptojacking Convict CP3O Faces New Allegations Behind Bars

Charles O. Parks III, known as CP3O, is facing new allegations of cryptocurrency-related activity while serving time in federal prison. He was sentenced to one year and one day for wire fraud in a scheme that involved obtaining over $3.5 million worth of cloud computing resources from two major providers.

The stolen resources were used to mine Ether, Litecoin, and Monero, with the latter being a privacy coin favored by those who want to avoid transaction tracing. Parks pleaded guilty to wire fraud in December 2024 and was ordered to forfeit $500,000 along with a luxury Mercedes-Benz purchased with scheme proceeds.

The case highlights the increasing sophistication of federal authorities in tracing cryptocurrency proceeds back to tangible assets. Monero's privacy features have made it a focal point for regulators, with several exchanges delisting it under pressure.
