Nigeria Terrorists Using Drones and Cryptocurrency for Operations, UN Warns
The United Nations has issued a warning about the increasing use of drones and cryptocurrencies by terrorist groups operating in northern Nigeria, West Africa, and the Sahel.
According to Leonardo Simão, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, armed groups are expanding across borders and working closely with organized crime to gain territorial and economic control.
This has resulted in 6.8 million people being displaced, while 1.28 million others have become refugees or asylum seekers.
In related news, Nigeria's headline inflation rate eased slightly to 15.91% in June, but more than half of the country's states continued to experience annual inflation above 30%, with Niger having the highest rate at 42.23% and Imo recording the lowest inflation rate at 19.47%.
