Tether's Crypto Freeze Reigns: $500M Frozen in 30 Days

Tether's recent freeze of $500 million in USDT highlights its increasing involvement in enforcing crypto regulations. The company has frozen more than $514 million across Ethereum and Tron over the past month, with most of this activity taking place on the Tron network.

According to BlockSec's USDT Freeze Tracker, 370 addresses have been blacklisted since January, including 328 on Tron and 42 on Ethereum. The figures show that Tether has become a key player in immobilizing funds linked to high-risk activities or investigations.

The trend suggests that Tether may exceed its previous freeze total of $1.26 billion by the end of the year. BlockSec's analysis found that 70% of frozen assets were later destroyed, and only 3.6% of addresses were removed from the blacklist, indicating a low reversal rate for freezes.

Tether's blacklisting activity has accelerated in recent years, with $3.3 billion immobilized across 7,268 addresses between 2023 and 2025. This figure far surpasses rival stablecoin issuer Circle's totals over the same period.
