Aave Overhauls Asset Listing Protocols After $230M Exploit Reveals Bridge Security Flaws

Aave has announced a major update to its asset listing protocols following a $230 million exploit in April 2026. The attack was linked to a compromised cross-chain bridge used by KelpDAO, which exposed risks in bridge verification systems.

The protocol's risk framework is being overhauled to include enhanced scrutiny of bridges, oracles, custodians, and operational security, alongside traditional financial and smart contract risks.

This move marks a significant shift in DeFi risk management beyond traditional smart contract vulnerabilities. Aave has already made hundreds of parameter changes and plans automated defenses to reduce collateral risk quickly.
