Ethereum Accused of Copying Cardano's Core Design

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has accused Ethereum of quietly adopting its EUTXO (Extended Unspent Transaction Output) logic, which is a core design element of the Cardano blockchain.

Hoskinson's accusation follows a new research proposal by Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter, who suggested treating simple payments as temporary, one-shot objects rather than permanent account-state entries. This approach would reduce Ethereum's state growth by about 99.8% and is similar to Bitcoin's UTXO model.

Hoskinson claims that Ethereum developers are copying Cardano's EUTXO design without giving credit, saying 'EUTXO is the biggest innovation of the smart contract world and Ethereum cannot mention it as they literally try to copy it.'

The Ethereum design has not become a formal EIP (Ethereum Improvement Proposal) yet and would still require community review and a hard fork before being implemented.
