US Lawmakers Introduce Task Force to Combat Cryptocurrency Thefts

US lawmakers have introduced legislation aimed at curbing cryptocurrency theft and scams by establishing a task force to coordinate investigations across federal, state, and local agencies.

The Department of Justice-led task force would bring together agencies such as the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to develop best practices for evidence collection, blockchain forensics, asset tracing, and victim support.

The bill, introduced by Representatives Lance Gooden and Josh Gottheimer, would also provide training and technical assistance to state and local law enforcement agencies on cryptocurrency-related crimes.

The task force would coordinate with international law enforcement agencies on cross-border investigations and submit annual reports to Congress on emerging threats, enforcement challenges, and potential policy recommendations.
