Aztec Brings Private Transactions to Mobile Devices with V5 Alpha Update
Aztec's Ethereum layer-2 scaling project has made significant progress in enabling private transactions on users' personal devices. The v5 alpha update, which received approval from AZTEC token holders through a governance vote, allows for end-to-end private token transfers on smartphones and standard laptops without reliance on trusted intermediaries.
The key performance improvements in the v5 alpha include a 50% drop in average transaction costs and a reduction of block times from 14 seconds to six seconds. Rollup proof verification costs have decreased by approximately 40%, making private token transactions cost under $0.05.
Aztec co-founder Zac Williamson stated that the system was built as a privacy-preserving layer first for Ethereum, with a vision to extend similar capabilities to other blockchain networks in the future. The launch arrives at a time when regulatory scrutiny around blockchain transparency and privacy is intensifying globally.
