Cronos Bolsters Stablecoin Offerings with Native USDC and EURC from Circle
Cronos, a layer 1 blockchain backed by Crypto.com, is expanding its stablecoin offerings with native USDC and EURC from Circle. This move aims to strengthen the platform's base for trading, payments, and app-level liquidity.
The integration brings Circle-issued USDC and EURC directly to Cronos, along with support for Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) for seamless native USDC movement across supported chains.
Cronos currently supports bridged USDC, known as USDC.e, but plans to migrate liquidity toward native USDC over time. The update provides a cleaner dollar and euro settlement layer, with native USDC being redeemable 1:1 for dollars through Circle, and EURC designed for 1:1 euro redeemability.
Circle's CCTP reduces the reliance on wrapped USDC by burning native USDC on the source chain and minting native USDC on the destination chain. This design aims to minimize liquidity fragmentation and give market makers a more direct route for moving native USDC between ecosystems.
