Global Crypto Scam Crackdown Results in 276 Arrests Worldwide

A joint effort by US, Chinese, and Dubai authorities has led to the arrest of at least 276 individuals in a major cryptocurrency scam crackdown. The operation, which involved unprecedented cooperation between the FBI, Dubai Police Department, and Chinese Ministry of Public Security, resulted in the dismantling of nine alleged fraud centers targeting Americans.

The scams, which relied on 'pig-butchering' tactics, involved fake platforms and online trust-building to manipulate victims into sending assets to the scammers. The authorities identified victims through FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center reports, interviews, and financial records.

The charges against the defendants include wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy, each carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and fines up to $250,000 or twice the gain or loss. This case marks a significant shift in enforcement efforts, targeting the infrastructure behind crypto fraud operations rather than just individual scammers.
