The cryptocurrency space is facing a growing threat from quantum computing, with recent research suggesting that over 5.6 million XRP Ledger accounts are exposed to potential attacks.
A study by an XRPL validator, known as 'Vet,' analyzed approximately 7.8 million accounts and found that 96% of the exposed XRP belongs to currently active accounts.
The remaining 3.83%, however, sits in dormant wallets inactive for more than five years, presenting a serious concern due to their owners' unlikely migration of funds before threats materialize.
XRPL's built-in defenses, including key rotation and multi-signature wallets, offer a pathway toward stronger quantum-safe security, but applying this across millions of accounts remains a practical challenge.
