Binance Founder CZ Proposes Freezing Satoshi's Massive BTC Stash
The idea of freezing Satoshi's Bitcoin stash has sparked heated debate in the crypto space. Binance founder CZ floated the concept on the Galaxy Brains podcast, suggesting that the roughly 1.1 million BTC held by Satoshi Nakamoto should face a deadline before being locked out for good.
CZ's proposal involves upgrading Bitcoin to quantum-resistant cryptography, giving legacy address holders six to twelve months to move their coins to the new format. Any coins left untouched after this window would be frozen through protocol rules, possibly via a soft fork or hard fork.
The main driver behind this idea is the threat posed by cryptographically relevant quantum computers. These machines could break ECDSA signatures used in old-style Bitcoin addresses, potentially triggering panic selling and market instability.
