Sui Network Faces Second Consecutive Outage Amid Technical Issues
The Sui Network is a Layer-1 blockchain developed by Mysten Labs, which has faced its second major outage in 2026. The disruption occurred on May 29, 2026, when block production halted for over three and a half hours before being restored. This incident follows an earlier six-hour outage on May 28 due to a bug introduced in the 1.72 software upgrade.
The Sui team attributed the outages to issues with the new release, which addressed balances and gas charging logic. An interim fix was deployed to restore functionality to the network, but it is believed that a more comprehensive solution has since been implemented by most validators.
The repeated technical failures have put pressure on SUI, the network's native token. As of May 29, 2026, SUI was trading at $0.9108, down 3.27% over the past 24 hours. The network's recent issues may erode trust among developers and users, particularly as institutional interest in Sui grows.
The outages have also coincided with the launch of SUI futures by CME Group on May 29. This timing may dampen enthusiasm for the derivatives product, which aims to provide regulated exposure to the Sui ecosystem.
