Minnesota Lawmakers Consider Ban on Crypto Kiosks Amid Rise in Elder Fraud Scams

Minnesota lawmakers are considering a ban on cryptocurrency kiosks, also known as crypto ATMs or Bitcoin ATMs, in response to an increase in elder fraud scams targeting residents of the state.

The proposed legislation, introduced by DFL Rep. Erin Koegel, co-chair of the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee, aims to address the growing concern over cryptocurrency-related financial losses among elderly Minnesotans.

The bill would prohibit anyone from 'placing or operating a virtual currency kiosk' anywhere in Minnesota, effectively banning the use of these machines across the state.
