Coinbase Base Blockchain Abandons Social Focus for Financial Infrastructure

Coinbase's Base blockchain is undergoing a significant shift in focus from social experiences to financial infrastructure. Jesse Pollak, the creator of Base and a senior Coinbase executive, stepped back from leading the app layer of the platform he built.

Pollak framed the decision plainly: 'I have returned the Base app to Coinbase's mothership. Going forward, my good friend Cobie will take it forward.'

Cobie will take over leadership of the Base app going forward, with focus on user experience, trading access, and product delivery.

Pollak returns to the chain layer, where he will concentrate on growing Base into a blockchain for global finance. His focus will be on throughput, reliability, liquidity, developer activity, and institutional use cases.
