Farage Embroiled in Crypto Controversy Over Undisclosed Support

Nigel Farage, leader of the right-wing U.K. party Reform UK, is facing fresh questions over undisclosed support tied to a cryptocurrency gambling platform.

The allegations center around George Cottrell, who reportedly provided financial support to Farage for security costs, a chauffeur, wages for social media staff, and accommodation in the year leading up to his election in the 2024 general election.

Farage is accused of failing to declare the support, which exceeds £300 per year under House of Commons rules. Cottrell has been linked to Tether Bet, an offshore crypto gambling platform that uses the stablecoin USDT, and served eight months in prison in the US on wire-fraud charges related to money laundering.

Farage's camp denies the allegations, stating that the support was received before he became a sitting politician and did not breach the rules. The controversy has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest given Farage's pro-crypto stance and his pledge to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve at the Bank of England and cut capital gains tax on crypto assets.
