Vitalik Buterin Outlines Ethereum Roadmap Focused on Scalability and Security

Ethereum's development roadmap for the next four years has been outlined by founder Vitalik Buterin at the Hong Kong Web3 Festival.

According to PA News, the plan prioritizes enhanced scalability and quantum security. Key short-term tasks include increasing the gas limit to improve performance, implementing Zero-Knowledge proofs (CKEVM) in the EVM, and supporting smart contract wallets and quantum-resistant signatures through account abstraction.

Beyond 2026, Buterin aims to reduce transaction finality time to between 10-20 seconds. By 2028, zkVM technology will be introduced, enabling even low-spec devices to verify the chain directly.

Ethereum's fundamental objective remains unchanged: becoming the world's most secure and decentralized blockchain. This goal contrasts with competing on speed against high-frequency trading platforms.
