Bitcoin's Returns Highly Concentrated in Short Bursts
Bitcoin is known as one of the best-performing assets in history, but its daily performance is often unremarkable. A closer look at historical data reveals that most of its long-term gains are concentrated in a small number of trading sessions.
Using data from July 2012 to present, researchers have identified 11 significant rallies that resulted in new price highs for Bitcoin. These periods, which occurred between April 2019 and November 2025, account for one-third of the cryptocurrency's seven-year gain.
The rallies were characterized by rapid price increases, with some achieving gains as high as 133% within a single month. In total, these 11 periods have contributed to nearly one-quarter of Bitcoin's entire return since its inception.
While timing market movements perfectly is impossible, this analysis highlights the importance of being invested during these specific periods for maximum returns.
