Crypto Billionaire Returns to UK to Donate Millions to Reform
Crypto billionaire Ben Delo is set to return to the UK after pledging millions of pounds to Reform, citing the recent introduction of a £100,000 cap on donations from Brits living abroad.
Delo, who made his fortune as a co-founder of cryptocurrency trading platform BitMEX, previously donated £4m to the party earlier this year. He has stated that he is moving back to Britain specifically to donate millions more to Nigel Farage's party in order to help build up their war chest.
The 42-year-old entrepreneur was convicted in the US in 2022 for violating the Bank Secrecy Act, but was subsequently pardoned by Donald Trump. Delo's decision to return to the UK follows recent changes to donation laws, which have made it more difficult for individuals living abroad to contribute to political parties.
Reform are also a pro-crypto party, having accepted donations in cryptocurrency and backed projects that support hardline positions on immigration, nationalism, and abortion. The party has received significant funding from crypto investors, including £12m from Thailand-based investor Christopher Harborne last year.
