Upbit Volume Surges 1437% Amidst South Korean Market Turmoil
The South Korean financial markets experienced a significant downturn on July 14, with the KOSPI index plummeting by 4% to 6,534.34.
This sharp decline coincided with a surge in trading volume on Upbit, the country's largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, which jumped by an astonishing 1,437% to $4.24 billion as of press time.
The spike in trading activity reflects heightened participation across Upbit's markets rather than a confirmed shift of capital out of equities.
South Korea's secondary market fared even worse, with the tech-heavy KOSDAQ Composite dropping 3.97% to 767.66 on the day.
