The Malaysian government is sounding the alarm on a growing issue: electricity theft by crypto miners. According to Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad, the country is losing up to RM700 million annually due to this illicit activity.
Electrical energy theft has become increasingly widespread across the nation, affecting not only commercial premises but also residential areas. Homeowners are being reminded to exercise vigilance when it comes to their tenants, as they may be held accountable if any offenses are committed.
To mitigate these losses, the government advises homeowners to transfer electricity accounts to tenants, ensuring that actual users bear the responsibility for consumption.
