Tokenization of Real-World Assets Gains Momentum as Institutional Players Build Market Infrastructure
The tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) is a significant development in the crypto space, with major financial players quietly building the next layer of market infrastructure on blockchain.
According to data shared from a post by 'subjective views', tokenized RWAs have reached roughly $25 billion in value, excluding stablecoins. U.S. Treasuries alone account for over $10 billion of that, with expectations that tokenized treasuries could exceed $100 billion by year-end.
The New York Stock Exchange and other exchanges are reportedly working on 24/7 on-chain trading and instant settlement. The DTCC is rolling out tokenized treasuries on the Canton network, while SEC-approved banks including BNY Mellon, Citi, and others are experimenting with tokenized deposits and digital bonds.
