Bessent Brushes Off Concerns Over Trump's Crypto Windfall
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has downplayed concerns that President Donald Trump's massive crypto earnings could create an appearance problem. In a recent interview with CBS News, Bessent said he doesn't think there's an issue.
The controversy stems from a financial disclosure showing Trump earned approximately $1.4 billion in 2025 from investments linked to cryptocurrencies and memecoins. This includes his holdings in the 'meme coin' $TRUMP and earnings from World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency company backed by the president and his family.
Democrats have flagged conflict of interest concerns, arguing that Trump's administration has sought to ease regulations on cryptocurrency while he personally benefits financially. However, Bessent views this as an 'innovation presidency' that is beneficial for all Americans.
