Ondo Finance has launched tokenized versions of BlackRock's iShares Core S&P 500 ETF and Micron Technology stock on Ethereum under the SEC's third-party custody framework. This marks a significant shift in how financial markets operate, as institutions can now deploy capital on public blockchain networks within existing regulatory perimeters.
The structure of Ondo's platform breaks with earlier tokenization models, which either operated offshore or required direct issuer participation. Instead, the company creates digital token representations of securities, while licensed custodians retain legal possession of underlying assets. Token holders receive identical shareholder privileges as conventional equity investors.
This model demonstrates that blockchain infrastructure can integrate with existing institutional settlement and governance systems, rather than replacing them entirely. Regulatory custody remains the foundation, with the blockchain layer adding speed and programmability to the governance and transfer process.
Fhenix has acquired Sunscreen, a cryptography firm, to accelerate fully homomorphic encryption capabilities. This move signals that blockchain privacy is transitioning from experimental research to production infrastructure. Fully homomorphic encryption enables computation on encrypted data without requiring decryption, which has remained largely theoretical for blockchain applications.
