Australian Police Seize Record-Breaking Cryptocurrency Haul

Australian police have made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to combat darknet marketplaces, seizing over $4.2 million in Bitcoin from an alleged operator.

The operation, which took place on May 4 in the state of New South Wales, saw detectives execute search warrants at several properties and seize a range of electronic devices and cryptocurrency holdings.

The seized Bitcoin is currently valued at more than $4.2 million, making it one of the largest cryptocurrency confiscations in Australian history. The operation is a result of Strike Force Andalusia, which was launched in September 2024 to investigate alleged darknet marketplace activity.

Credit for the successful operation goes to the NSW Cybercrime Squad's commander, Detective Superintendent Matt Craft, who stated that 'law enforcement can now reach into the dark web' thanks to advances in cryptocurrency tracking capabilities.
