Ethereum's Gas Fee Reduction Fuels Exponential Increase in Address Poisoning Attacks
The Ethereum network has experienced a surge in address poisoning attacks following the Fusaka upgrade, which reduced gas fees sixfold.
According to a study by blockchain researcher Andrey Sergeenkov, the number of daily transactions increased from approximately 30,000 to 167,000 after the upgrade, with a peak of 510,000 on a single day in January.
The economic consequences are telling, with victims losing more than $63 million in just over two months after Fusaka. This figure is 13 times higher than the losses recorded in a comparable period before the upgrade.
