Crypto Industry Faces 'Vulnerability Apocalypse' Due to New AI Models

The crypto industry is facing a 'vulnerability apocalypse' due to new AI models that have shifted the cybersecurity landscape in favor of attackers, according to Mitchell Amador, CEO of bug bounty platform Immunefi.

New AI models such as Claude Opus 4.8 and ChatGPT 5.5 are behind the resurgence in crypto hacks, with April 2026 seeing a surge in hacking activity that resulted in over $634 million stolen from cryptocurrency platforms.

Crypto needs to survive the next three to four years until cybersecurity teams harness the defensive capabilities of these AI models to build 'impregnable' codebases, said Amador.
