Regulatory Framework Expands Access to Crypto Derivatives in Dubai
Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) has taken a significant step forward in regulating the crypto derivatives market by introducing a framework that allows retail investors to access exchange-traded derivatives (ETDs).
The framework sets a maximum leverage limit of 5x for retail investors, a move seen as a prudent risk-mitigation tool. This cap is intended to prevent the catastrophic losses associated with excessive leverage in unregulated markets.
VARA's approach mirrors principles from traditional financial markets but adapts them for the unique characteristics of digital assets. The framework mandates rigorous risk disclosure protocols and suitability assessments for retail clients, as well as robust custody solutions, transparent pricing mechanisms, and resilient trading infrastructure for licensed exchanges.
