CFTC Boosts Whistleblower Program Awards to Over $8 Million
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has increased its whistleblower program awards to over $8 million in recent years, signaling a strong commitment to enforcing market regulations. On June 1, 2026, the agency announced five awards totaling more than $8 million, with each award averaging around $1.6 million per whistleblower.
The CFTC's whistleblower rules have been in place since 2016 and remain unchanged, but the agency has shown a willingness to pursue enforcement actions in the crypto space. The recent awards come on the heels of an approximately $700,000 whistleblower payout issued in May 2025, reinforcing a pattern of steady output.
Industry players are also taking steps to build their own compliance tools, with prediction-market platform Kalshi adding internal whistleblower reporting tools and FinCEN working on establishing its own whistleblower program focused on anti-money laundering regulations.
