South Korean Prosecutors Recover $22 Million Worth of Missing Bitcoin
South Korean prosecutors have made a major breakthrough in their investigation into the theft of $22 million worth of Bitcoin, recovering nearly all of the missing cryptocurrency.
According to officials, the recovery was made possible after they tracked down the operator of a bogus wallet checking tool that had been used to drain the contents of five USB-powered cold wallets.
The incident came to light in January when prosecutors admitted they had lost control of 320 confiscated Bitcoins, sparking outrage and calls for greater transparency in the handling of cryptocurrencies by government agencies.
